Common Cycle Bikes for Refugees

Common Cycle Bikes for Refugees

The three boys (their brother is not in the picture) live in Ann Arbor. They are refugees from Afghanistan and arrived in 2019. Common Cycle gave them the three bikes, locks and two helmets and our club provided one helmet. We became aware of their wish to ride bicycles from Washtenaw Refugee Welcome. Our club has donated bikes and biking equipment to refugees in the last few years. We have worked with Common Cycle to make the donations possible.

Common Cycle is the bicycle co-op in Ann Arbor. The mission of the organization is to get more people on bicycles by offering access to tools and supplies and trained volunteers. They have public hours on Sundays when people may come and get help with their bicycles for no charge. Also offered is a femme/trans/women event once a month and a bike maintenance class twice a year. They regularly repair donated bikes and provide the bikes to meet requests from local social service organizations such as Washtenaw Refugee Welcome and the Offender Success program. They are holding a used bike sale on September 4th. Common Cycle is a 501(c)(3) non profit and have been in operation since 2010. Find them at -commoncycle.org.
